Cops discovered the horror after the ad executive tried to explain their disappearance by claiming the family had fled to Australia under the witness protection programme.
Churchgoing Xavier Dupont de Ligonnes, 50, began telling friends he was a secret agent – then scarpered when they alerted police after hearing nothing from his wife or children for three weeks.
Officers who swooped on the family’s empty townhouse discovered a severed leg under the garden terrace. Wife Agnes, 49, was found in a freshly dug grave – as were children Tomas, 21, Arthur, 18, Anne, 16, and 13-year-old Benoit. The massacre in Nantes, France, had even included the family’s two labradors. Local prosecutor Xavier Ronsin confirmed: “Friends said the father claimed to be a secret agent who was leaving as part of a witness protection programme.”
