Wolves manager Mick McCarthy insists that his side’s 1-1 draw against Fulham could prove to be the point which keeps his side in the Premier League.

Steven Fletcher put the bottom-side ahead before substitute Andy Johnson scored the equaliser after being on the pitch for just 18 seconds, and although the former Republic of Ireland boss admitted a win would have been better, he conceded that the draw was a fair result.

“It might be the point that keeps us in the league,” McCarthy told Sky Sports. “I’ll take the point, every point’s a prisoner.”

“On the balance of play I don’t think we’ve dominated the game, but having got our noses in front we’ve got to learn to keep that clean sheet which unfortunately we didn’t.

“I think so a draw is a fair result,” he added.

The Wolves boss was impressed with his side’s goal, bagged by Steven Fletcher, but insisted that it’s tough to play free-flowing football when you are at the bottom of the league, and praised the way Mark Hughes’ side performed.

“It’s difficult to play free-flowing football when you’re bottom of the league playing against a good side, I might add. We were a bit nervy but hard-working and as ever fully committed,” McCarthy continued.

“If you look at the bench and the players they’ve substituted, it tells you you’ve got a good squad of players.

On Wolves’ strike, McCarthy added: “It was a terrific goal – well worked with Karl Henry and Adlene Guedioura,” McCarthy added.
