Manchester United‘s veteran goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar says he is still learning in football ever at the age of 40, as the Dutchman’s career comes nearer to its conclusion.

The former Ajax shot-stopper is set to retire at the end of the season and the campaign could end in glory as the Red Devils come closer to their 19th league title.

Van der Sar is adamant that he will be giving his all till the end of the current campaign regardless of the impending close to his career, as United prepare to face Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The 40-year-old claims that even at his advancing years, he is still learning from the game he has been a part since the delicate age of 10.

“It is not just during the games, even in training you are always learning,” he said.

“That’s very important because every time you step out onto the pitch you have to be on your toes and ready for all the things that can happen.”

With possible returns for Rio Ferdinand, Dimitar Berbatov and Antonio Valencia among the list of players that could feature in this weekend’s game against David Moyes’ side, Van der Sar believes United have the perfect blend of players to be able to call on.

“On the one hand, you have a young player who brings maybe enthusiasm and fresh legs,” he said.

“Then, on the other, you have the experienced guys, who have the knowledge and the composure in important situations.”
