McAllister: To take charge of side against Stoke as Houllier remains in hospital

Gary McAllister has confirmed Gerard Houllier does not need surgery after being taken to hospital with chest pains.

Houllier is continuing to be treated in hospital after he fell ill on Wednesday evening complaining of chest pains.

The 63-year-old has a history of health problems after being forced to undergo life-saving emergency heart surgery in October 2001 after complaining of chest pains at half-time during Liverpool’s game with Leeds.

The exact nature of his current illness has not been revealed, but McAllister insists the Frenchman does not require any operation.

McAllister, who will be in charge of the Villa side for the game with Stoke, is unsure when Houllier will be able to return to the dugout.
