Easter celebration in Ghana is usually characterized by numerous activities that are earmarked to remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Modernity has taken the celebrations to another level where companies chance on the period to create publicity and make extra profit.

However five clans in Amedzofe, 15 minutes drive from Ho in the Volta Region have seized the celebration period to contribute monies towards development projects in their town. The initiative was started by an Irrigation Consultant and son of the town by name Samuel Akagbor in 1982.

Since then the tradition has been continued yielding many projects like schools, markets, scholarships and many others.

All five clans including Dzeme, Alisalu, Korkopome Tsikor and Otopome converge at their town at the Easter period during which a host of activities are celebrated towards a grand durbar on Easter Saturday where the clans would contribute their quota in turns.

What makes it unique is the way the various clans present their monies either in envelopes or in unique styles.
Accountants in their midst later collate the amount and the clan with the highest contribution is presented with a cow amidst drumming and dancing.

This year’s celebration is a week long program spearheaded by the Amedzofe Development Association. It would be characterized by a host of activities including church activities, durbar, dancing competition and a picnic where visitors would be welcomed.

Meanwhile on the Christian front, Rev. Tetteh Dzamgbah observed that people without the real understanding of the period abuse it with a host of immoral activities. But he quickly adds that it a time of making the best of the occasion to the glory of God.
