The chiefs of the Volta Region have appealed for more infrastructural development in the region and the speedy completion of projects already began. According to them, the region has a lot of mineral resources which will benefit the nation as a whole, hence the need to pay attention to the region for the successful tapping of these resources.

The chiefs made the call when members of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs paid a courtesy call on the president at the Osu Castle on Thursday April 21.

The President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbui Afede XIV, who spoke on behalf of the chiefs, expressed delight at the ongoing oil and gas exploration in the Keta basin, and the planned commencement of exploration in the entire Volta basin.

Torgbui Afede also underscored the importance of good transport infrastructure, and commended the President for his commitment to ensuring the construction of the Eastern Corridor roads.

“We are looking to your further supporting efforts to ensure that our region contributes its quota to the development of the nation,” he said, and appealed for the early commencement of work on the dual carriage way in Aflao as part of the Akatsi-Aflao road.

President Mills assured the delegation of his government’s determination to complete the various projects started, especially the construction of the University of Health and Allied Sciences as well as the Eastern Corridor roads.
