Leeds head coach Brian McDermott praised his side for a ‘big improvement’ after they ended a three-game winless streak with a gutsy 30-22 success at Bradford.
The Rhinos trailed 10-0 after nine minutes and were level at 22-22 after an hour, but produced a strong finish to win the Easter derby clash.
“It’s very pleasing considering where we’ve been for the last few weeks,” said McDermott, whose side were crushed 38-6 at home by Huddersfield a week ago.
“I thought that game was in the balance and you’ve got to give Bradford a lot of credit. Both teams weren’t great last week and they certainly meant business tonight.
“The most pleasing aspect is how we won. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out it was a big improvement.
“It was all about performance tonight. I would have been content if Bradford had snatched it in the last minute because there was something for us to build on.”
Positives
The Bulls were virtually unrecognisable from the side that lost 56-16 at Salford last week and Bradford coach Mick Potter said: “I thought we did some really good things tonight and there were some positives for us but by the 80th minute they had more points than us.
“They built some pressure on us in the second half. I am pleased with the response and, if take that intensity into very game we’ll compete – but we need to do it for the full 80 minutes. There are things we need to do better and we do start very quickly.”
