The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan for his victory at Saturday’s presidential election and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under the chairmanship of Prof. Attahiru Jega for setting Nigeria on the threshold of history.
A communiqué at the end of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting signed by the national secretary of the party, Agbo Gilbert Major, said what happened since the April elections began is a testimony that Nigeria wants transformation.
“We wish to congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan for his victory in the just concluded presidential election. We thank Nigerians for their resilience and determination to get it right this time. Their huge participation in the electoral process and orderliness during the polls is a testimony of their determination to make this country a better place for all,” Major said.
He also commended President Jonathan for not interfering with the activities of INEC and Prof. Jega, saying, “this is a rare display of sportsmanship that we have not seen from past presidents and electoral umpires of this nation. We urge Mr. President to be magnanimous in victory and display the sound policy of sportsmanship for which he is known to accommodate all Nigerians in the interest of the nation.”
He equally urged other candidates to be magnanimous in defeat and join hands in nation building.
