The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) in Yobe have been trading allegations of plans to smuggle in foreigners to vote during the gubernatorial election in the state.
Director General of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam’s campaign Sidi Karasuwa, on Monday alleged that his party had a security report that the PDP was planning to import foreigners to come and participate in next week’s gubernatorial election.
Reacting to the allegation yesterday, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagun, the Director General of the campaign organisation of the PDP candidate Usman Albishir, dismissed the allegations saying only the government which has enough money at its disposal can afford to fund the importation of foreigners into the country.
“We have not stolen resources that we can use to hire three thousand people from Niger Republic; this is their antics and it is their plan,” he alleged adding that some top officials of the state government who hail from border towns of Machina and Karasuwa have been handling the importation project for the ANPP.
Regarding allegations of possession of already stamped ballot papers, he said it is on record that an ANPP supporter was caught with a fake stamped ballot paper at a polling unit on election day in Fune Local Government
“The record is there, and the boy was brought to divisional police headquarters before being taken to the CID. But no PDP member was ever caught doing this, so what plan are they alleging when they already have their plans. In any case we have put machineries in place to checkmate them,” he said.
