This was in reaction to suggestions that some party executives like Mr Ade Coker, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Mr Tony Aidoo, Sherry Ayittey and a host of others who are close to the Rawlings’ seem to have deserted them.
However, Kofi Adams maintained that since Nana Konadu’s ambition to lead the NDC is not about friends, but rather, “about solving the problems that face the party and country”, she does not need the support of these friends who do not believe in what she believes in.
He was speaking in an interview with Xfm 95.1; an Accra based private radio station.
Citing the example of Jesus Christ whose apostle betrayed him, Mr Adams said Nana Konadu does not “expect everybody to support her,” saying, “it is not a contest of friends where you say, ‘you are my friend, so I am joining you… You cannot be forced into supporting somebody”.
Besides, Mr Adams indicated that supporting either the sitting President or Mrs Rawlings’ bid is the right of the individual person, however adding that Ministers who have declared support for President Mills are only protecting their jobs.
“For many of them, you would see that they are up there to protect their jobs, you cannot take that away from them”.
Mr Adams opined that Nana Konadu is not the least perturbed about these developments as “she is strategizing according to what is on the ground”. He said Mrs Rawlings is enjoying massive supports from the constituency delegates and the regional executives, adding that, “that is what she is focused on”.
