Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has warned midfielder Cheikh Tiote to behave himself as he from his third suspension of the season for their clash against Manchester United.
The Ivorian midfielder is available again for the Magpies after serving a two-game ban for receiving his 10th yellow card of the season against Stoke City, and Pardew has urged him to concentrate on his football.
Tiote arrived at St James’ Park in August from FC Twente and has made a huge impact at the club, but his disciplinary record has seen him miss crucial games this season and that is something that concerns his manager.
“I haven’t had that many Premier League games but he has missed five of them,” Pardew said.
“That can’t be right. He can be overzealous at times.”
And Pardew recognises that if his side are to upset the Premier League leaders at St James Park they need their best players on the pitch, and that includes Tiote.
“It will be important for Sir Alex Ferguson and myself that 11 players are on the pitch at the end of the game because there is going to be a bit of feistiness in it,” he added.
“It’s an important balance and he needs to get that right.
“He is important to us and we have missed him. We missed him against Aston Villa with the pace they have in the team and having him back in the side is going to help us considerably.”
