Luanda — The Angolan vice-president, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, Thursday in Luanda, discussed with the Foreign minister of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mohamed Salem Salek, matters related to cooperation between the two states.

Accompanied by his Angolan counterpart, Georges Chikoti, Sahrawi’s Mohamed Salem Salek spoke to the press at the end of the audience granted to him by the vice-president.

He said that during the meeting, the parties analysed the world’s political and economic situation, with stress to the latest developments in northern Africa and Middle East.

The Foreign minister said as well that the Sahrawi people is awaiting with “much expectation” the UN to call the referendum for the self-determination of Western Sahara, occupied by Morocco since 1976.

Spain that controlled the Sahrawi territory withdrew in 1975, before neighbouring Mauritania and Morocco moved in alleging historical rights to seize it.

The Western Sahara Republic with its Government in exile was proclaimed on February 27, 1976 by the Polisario.
