Margreth Oboh, a consumer said, a loaf of bread that she usually buys at N150, now goes for N200, while the loaf for N200 sell for N250, adding that she has reduced her bread consumption rate.
Another consumer who spoke in similar vein said he has stopped eating bread.
They called on government to subsidize the cost of materials used in producing bread in order to make it affordable for the common man.
Abdulhadi Sadiq, a bread seller at Nyanya Market, said patronage of the commodity since the price shot up has greatly reduced.
“Before, customers used to buy up to three or four loaves at a go but now, some buy only one loaf while others complain that the price is too high,” he said.
