Super Eagles Head Coach, Samson Siasia, has been given the thumbs up by the Association of Sports Veterans Nigeria, following the senior national team superlative performances in the last one week.
While Eagles demolished Ethiopia 4-0 on Sunday in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in Abuja, the team defeated Kenyan Harambee Stars 3-0on Tuesday in an international friendly also in Abuja.
The Veterans also kudos to the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) given the 5-0 defeat of Equatorial Guinea U-23 team in London Olympics 2012 football event qualifier by its Nigeria counterpart.
” Last week end was worth celebrating in the history of Nigeria football. We do not remember the last time Nigerians were afforded such happiness and hope for a brighter future, ” says Chief Jonathan Ogufere, leader of the Association of Sports Veterans Nigeria.
The former president of WAFU and member of the NFA said the Veterans were delighted by the transformation now sweeping through the NFA.
“Last week end was worth celebrating…….it brought back hope of a glorious future. We will not say we have arrived, no, but we can see signs of a systematic build up which if sustained, can only lead to greatness,” Chief Ogufere noted.
The Veterans were all praise for the Eagles which played purposefully and with great determination.
They prayed for cooperation for Siasia who has so far proven that he has all it takes to take Nigeria’s football back to where it belonged.
” We are already looking forward to the clash against Argentina on June 1 and we do not have any doubt in our minds that given adequate preparations and focus there is nothing to fear unlike the psychological surrender that was our lot last time the Brazilians came here.
“We saw the Ghanaians against England. We will see better against Argentina” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Veterans are also in celebration mood as two members clocked “God willing milestones”.
Patron, Chief Sunny Odogwu clocked 80 last week, just as another member Mr. Linus Mba was seventy two weeks ago and the Veterans are in high spirits.
