ONE hundred and ten European Union (EU) election observers arrived the country yesterday through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, from Netherlands.
Some of them were flown through the Murtala Muhammed Airport Two (MMA2), Lagos, to states where they would observe the elections tomorrow.
A member of the team, Leonerdus Den Biggelar, said 60 were for short time service and the others would be here for a long time.
Biggelar said some of the observers would observe the election in Lagos and Ogun states.
He told reporters that the election observers would be in the country for about three weeks or more depending on the outcome of the elections.
“We are 60 in all that came from the Netherlands for short time service to Nigeria and some of us are going to Abeokuta, Ogun State.
‘’And there are 50 long time officers too. We also have officers in Abuja. We may be in Nigeria for three weeks or more. It is European Union that is taking care of our logistics.
‘’And we hope there will be good elections that will be free and fair.”
He said the purpose of the mission was to provide support for the development of the country’s democratic institutions and procedures.
Biggelar said they would conduct a comprehensive analysis of the electoral process and provide an impartial and informed assessment.
