A youth group in Tamale in the Northern region has warned President Atta Mills and his appointees not to visit the Dagbon State or set foot in the city, saying if they did, they would taste Nana Akufo-Addo’s ‘All die be die’ slogan.
The fire-breathing youth, on Tuesday, attacked Alhaji Abdulai Silimboma who doubles as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regional Organizer and Northern regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
The NDC chieftain escaped death by the whiskers when rampaging party youth, who embarked on a street protest in the Tamale metropolis, attacked him, shortly after the ruling on the Ya Na murder case.
The NDC regional Organizer, who drove into the rampaging youth, was rescued by good Samaritans but his brand new official Nissan Hard Body double-cabin pickup was vandalized during the attack.
The attack formed part of several youth protests in various forms against the Fast Track High Court ruling that freed all the 15 Abudu suspects standing trial in connection with the murder of the overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Yakubu Andani II on March 29, 2002.
Government business in the Tamale Metropolis grounded to a halt yesterday because the Mayor, Alhaji Abudulai Haruna Friday, and staff of the assembly, vacated their posts for fear of their lives.
Widespread rumour in town indicated that the angry NDC youth threatened to storm the assembly and attack the Mayor, after a failed attempt on Tuesday night at his private residence.
In a related development, executives of two NDC youth groups called the 64 Bench at Changli and the Gbewaa Youth group, both in the Tamale Central constituency, have called on all the Dagbon Members of Parliament, some of whom are Ministers, to immediately resign from their positions.
At separate news conferences, Mohammed Hamza, General Secretary of the NDC 64 Bench, announced the group’s withdrawal of their membership from the party.
“We wish to inform the NDC government that all members of the 64 Bench and our sister youth groups in the Tamale metropolis are tired of the government’s lies and deceit and we wish to withdraw our membership as NDC faithful and sympathizers until justice is done to the Ya Na murder case. We are also calling on all Dagbon MPs and Ministers to resign with immediate effect or risk losing the 2012 general elections,” Mohammed Hamza fumed.
On the other hand, Chief Zaachi Salman Sibri, Chairman of the Gbewaa Youth Association, gave a strong warning to President Mills and other government functionaries not to visit Tamale.
“We are giving a strong warning to President John Mills and his Ministers not to visit Tamale as earlier indicated because the saying that ‘All die be die’ would be implemented,” Sibri warned.
Chief Sibri also accused Dr. Nazer of the University of Ghana, A.B.A. Fuseini of Graphic Communications Group Limited, Dr. Yahuza Gomda of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission and one Yakubu Kasuli of allegedly using the Ya Na murder issue to amass wealth instead of defending the interest of the Andani family.
Another youth group in the Tamale South constituency called Zolikugli Youth Association at Lamashegu, with a membership of about 150, announced their withdrawal from the NDC over the same issue.
The group set ablaze the brand new Tamale South Constituency office which Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for the area, is putting up.
