Hamburg forward Ruud van Nistelrooy has confirmed that he is looking to make a return to the Premier League or La Liga.

The 34-year-old spent five fruitful years at Manchester United before making a move to Real Madrid in 2006. And after four years at the Bernabeu, the Dutchman made a move to his current club.

But now the experienced hitman has confirmed that a return to England could be on the cards.

“I am thinking about a nice club in England after this season,” Van Nistelrooy said, according to The Mirror.

“Or a club in Spain, but I don’t think Real Madrid will come again after their efforts to bring me back in the January transfer window.”

Van Nistelrooy also admitted that he would be willing to join a “big European club” as a stand-by marksman.

He added: “I have decided that if a really big European club does approach me, I will accept a role as reserve striker.

“I would have accepted that too if the deal with Real Madrid had come off in January.

“They knew I was ready to step in when needed.”

The Netherlands international also admitted that he has no problem playing the role of a substitute with his national team.

“The national coach Bert van Marwijk has been very clear about my role,” said Van Nistelrooy.

“I can live with being on the bench. I will play when they need me.

“Holland also want me to go to the European Championship finals in 2012.”
