Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Ayo Adakeja yesterday said the voters’ registers in the 33 local governments would not be displayed for a second time.
Speaking on alleged manipulation of the registers in 27 local governments, Adakeja insisted that the registers were intact.
The Head of the Information and Communication (ICT) Unit of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, Osunlola Akinyinka, was arrested on Saturday with three others currently in police custody.
Six Direct Data Capture (DDC) machines and some registration materials were recovered from them.
Many parties have called on INEC to display the registers because of Saturday’s incident.
Adakeja said: ”I ‘m happy to inform you that no damage, either to our server or any other electronic storage, has been recorded. We have a couple of back-ups for the voters’ register. “We are not nursing any fear of data loss due to the tampering. The officer involved in this unfortunate incident is still with the police for necessary investigations.”
On allegations that he was in an unholy alliance with Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Adakeja said: “This disturbing incident has generated some fabrications in the media. The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Oyo State accused me of collecting a bribe of N20 million from the governor. Comments are free, but facts are sacred.”
He assured voters of free and fair elections next month.
