The Lagos State Government has said the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway rehabilitation project was abandoned by the Federal Government and not the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola.
In a statement by Fashola’s media aide, Hakeem Bello, the state government said: “The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to the front page photo story of the Vanguard yesterday, captioned ‘Jonathan, Fashola abandon Oshodi–Apapa Expressway.’
“The Lagos State Government states that there is no truth in the publication. Rather, the truth is that the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway is a Federal Government road.
“Aside intervening directly to ameliorate the sufferings of motorists on that road, Fashola has written to the Federal Government to rehabilitate the road without getting any response.
“Both the failed road and the indiscriminate parking by tanker drivers on the access routes to the nation’s sea port, as stated in the accompanying report to the pictures, remain constant reminders of the failure of the Federal Government to take responsibility over critical infrastructural issues as it concerns Lagos.”
The restriction associated with the monthly environmental sanitation in Lagos State will not be observed on Saturday.
Commissioner for Environment Muiz Banire said it was to create an enabling environment for parties to mobilise support for the elections.
