Nairobi — It was a weekend at the top, middle and bottom of the Kenyan Premier League where results may have huge ramifications on the destiny of clubs in the coming weeks to months.

Kenya Commercial Bank won, Rangers FC almost lost, Tusker FC could be on a surge to battle for the Premier League top spot, Chemelil Sugar crumbled, Bandari FC remembered how to win, while Karuturi Sports plummeted to defeat in an away match against AFC Leopards.

And these are just a few of the many talking points from two days of football.

    Nothing new

A plethora of goals in a KPL weekend is nothing new; in fact it’s rather old news. Five goals in four league matches from George Midenyo has not only helped Tusker FC in their quest for the Premier League title, but also made him a heavy favourite to win the Golden Boot.

Midenyo failed to find the target in the opening match against AFC Leopards.

However, this should not be a chief concern as he will always be presented with a hatful of chances by his brewers’ teammates, particularly with Dennis Mukaisi showing glimpses of rediscovering his best form since he made a switch from Leopards and the left-footed Levy Muaka.

To dwell on Midenyo’s supposed ease of his goals would be to take the credit away from a player who seems to possess the sublime striking instinct of being in the right place at the right time.

But if Midenyo knocked down the pins then it was Mukaisi who set them up.

It was always going to be the case that whoever could prise Mukaisi away from Leopards would have one hell of a player, and Tusker fans, must know that their new number 10 is a little bit special.

    Deserved a goal

The close control which Mukaisi showed while he tip-toed through the Chemelil defence certainly deserved a goal.

“I’m enjoying my current form and I just hope to continue with scoring. My fellow players have also been quite supportive in my quest. It has really pushed us and we intend to keep on winning,” said Midenyo.

At Mbaraki Sports Club, Nairobi City Stars defender Arthur Museve denied Bandari the lead inside two minutes but could do little when Peter Musiime shot for their first of four goals two minutes later.

Champions Ulinzi Stars finally registered their first win after four rounds!

At City Stadium, Gor Mahia’s Edwin Lavatsa hit a brilliant winner against Stima.. Leopard’s grit and never-say-die attitude earned them a battling win at Mumias Complex.
