President Ondimba insists Gabon will be ready to host the Nations Cup |
Gabon President Ali Bongo Ondimba insists that his country will be ready to co-host the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
His comments come despite concerns that preparations are falling behind.
Bongo said some plans are moving forward at a fast pace but “in others were being very slow”.
He added that he could understand why people in Gabon were worried that things would not be ready for the kick-off on 21 January next year.
“We will be ready on time,” he said in an interview during a visit to London.
“When I go back next week I will be touring all the different facilities.
“I will put pressure on everybody to make sure we are ready on time.
“This is an important event, the Gabonese people want it and I have no choice but to make sure that the African Cup of
Nations will be played in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.”
Gabon are due to co-host the tournament with Equatorial Guinea.
The qualifying campaign for the finals continues this weekend with teams battling for the 14 places alongside the co-hosts.
