Damiao, 21, is yet to be capped and will replace Alexandre Pato in the squad. The Milan striker injured his ankle at the weekend while playing against Palermo in Serie A and has been ruled out of the encounter with Scotland at the Emirates.
Damiao has scored 13 goals this season and will make his debut if he takes to the pitch at Arsenal’s home ground.
“I’m taking advantage of the circumstances to summon a player who has been playing well with Internacional and is young enough to play in the Olympics,” said Menezes on the Brazilian federation’s website.
Villarreal hitman Nilmar is also doubtful as he is suffering from a muscle injury.
