She called on the President and the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to audit the MCE’s administration because within six months of Marlon’s appointment, he bought two cars and a building at Bankyease, a suburb of Takoradi.
“If Kobina Annan Marlon says he will let the public know secrets of the NDC, he should do so now or I will throw the bombshell for all and sundry to know his malicious deeds and the mess he caused as MCE of Sekondi-Takoradi,” she dared Marlon.
She claimed people in Sekondi-Takoradi knew the outgoing MCE’s financial status when he returned from Norway some six months to the 2008 general elections and how he enriched himself within six months of becoming MCE of Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.
“Just within six months, he parked his rickety car and bought two brand new cars with registration numbers WR 1891–10 and WR 2051-10 and also purchased a building at Bankyease, which Kobina Marlon has constructed one on top to make it a storey building,” she yelled.
She queried whether the sacked MCE bought those cars and the building with his salary, asking the authorities and the security personnel to quickly take the key to the MCE’s office from Marlon to prevent him from altering certain receipts and documents.
The Deputy Women’s Organizer of NDC made these known on Skyy FM in Takoradi last Sunday, in reaction to the MCE’s earlier pronouncements. Araba Tagoe asked the ousted MCE to render an unqualified apology to the President, party executives and members for being rude to them and denting the party’s image.
The outgoing MCE, on hearing about his dismissal went on Skyy FM, a Takoradi-based local radio station, and claimed his removal was orchestrated by some regional executives of the NDC through some leading members of the party based in Accra and that he would reveal certain top secrets of the NDC.
In a brief response to the allegations, Marlon said he was already well-to-do before being appointed by President Mills as mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi in 2009 and that he declared GH¢4,500 cash as part of his assets after taking office that year.
He said President Mills as a Christian knew him as hard working and did not intend booting him out, but persistent pressure mounted on him by some regional executives and leading members led to his (Marlon) dismissal, adding “so the president should write to me officially to indicate that I have been sacked.”
However, Araba Tagoe maintained that the MCE’s performance was below expectation and that if some party executives had listened to her from the very onset, Marlon would not have been given the position of MCE, which eventually led to the wild outbursts against the President and regional executives after his dismissal.
She said Marlon was a baby in politics and that he should not make wild pronouncements that could mar the enviable image of the party.
Meanwhile, Kobina Annan Pra has apologized to President Mills on Skyy FM, saying he was emotionally-charged on hearing his dismissal and therefore made some wild pronouncements including accusing the Western regional executives of NDC of masterminding his removal through Totobi Quakyi and the Ahwoi brothers who he said mounted pressure on President Mills to have him fired.
He also said he had written an apology letter to the president through the Western Regional minister.
