Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes Manchester United will win the title this season because their rivals have handed it to them.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side took full advantage of Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with West Brom on Saturday with a win over Bolton and are now sat five points clear at the top of the table as the season nears its conclusion.
However, Redknapp feels that United have had it easy with all of their title rivals throwing away points in games that they should be winning comfortably.
He said: “Really we are handing the title to Manchester United this year.
“This is as poor as Manchester United have played in years, but they keep stumbling along and nicking results when they should have got done.
“Chelsea have blown up, Arsenal too – it is there for somebody this year to win the championship.”
The former Portsmouth boss, who has seen star wide man Gareth Bale sign a lucrative new contract at White Hart Lane this weekend, has also insisted that Spurs could mount a title challenge next season, provided a couple of players can be brought in over the summer.
He said: “I don’t think the other big clubs have got anything that Spurs don’t have.
“People might think I’m mad to be aiming to win the league but I think it is possible.
“But if I do win one it will be a bit of a miracle, won’t it? I think if I did then I’d probably retire. But I do think it is possible.
“If we can go and get a couple of Luka Modrics, people like that. We’ve got to believe we can achieve anything here.”
