Incensed with what he thinks are the circumstances surrounding his brother’s shocking transfer to Tafo Pankrono in the Ashanti Region, Seth, a one-time Acting Communications Director at the NDC headquarters, sneered at the reasons the Chief Constable has given for the movement of Supt Kwesi Ofori from the Police Headquarters, where he was Director of Public Affairs.
He totally disagreed with the position of the IGP that the transfer was purely administrative, adding that if that was what the man was claiming, “I leave him to his conscience.”
Speaking to Daily Guide shortly after the transfer of Supt. Ofori was announced, he said he could not understand why his brother, after all the good things he did while heading the Public Affairs Directorate, should be treated the way he was.
Turning to philosophy however, he could only manage “I leave him to his conscience”, following the IGP’s explanation that the transfer was nothing but an administrative issue. Mr. Kwesi Ofori, the face of the Ghana Police Service, during the many crisis that have hit the security agency in the past years since he has been at the helm of affairs there, was unceremoniously booted out of the position last week.
News about the movement was as puzzling as the Supt Ofori’s denial that there was anything like a transfer since, according to him, he had not been communicated to in the normal police channel when such decisions were taken.
When media persons went to the Police Headquarters last week Friday to find out the authenticity of the story that he had been transferred, Kwesi Ofori was still glued to his seat performing his normal duties.
At a point, the story began suffering a credibility challenge, especially when an anonymous police officer queried the media for not cross-checking their stories before making them public. As the confusion went on, another story was released about Mr. Kwesi Ofori heading for Tafo Pankrono in the Ashanti Region, by which time it dawned him that the transfer was real.
It is believed that Mr. Kwesi Ofori’s management of the Michael Frimpong phone calls from the custody of the CID did not please the IGP. Superintendent Kwesi Ofori was one of the police officers recently promoted to the next rank, having moved a step from his previous rank of Deputy Superintendent.
