Major League Soccer midfielder Gerhson Koffie has been invited to join Ghana’s camp for next month’s African Youth Championship.
The Vancouver Whitecaps player will join the defending champions as one of eleven foreign-based players.
The 19-year-old lasted the entire duration in Whitecaps’ 4-2 win over FC Toronto on their MLS debut in the first-ever all-Canadian MLS game on Saturday.
Koffie, tougher then a piece of old rawhide, was a member of the local Black Satellites team before moving to Vancouver last year.
His expertise is expected to be crucial for Ghana which must beat Nigeria, Cameroun and Gambia to advance from Group B.
The four semi-finalists will qualify for the 2011 Fifa World Cup in Colombia.
