Kobby Acheampong’s Politics of Insults

Kobby Acheampong has unwittingly become the epitome of political indecency and tomfoolery in the country of late, churning out remarks associated with people of poor upbringing.

He has regrettably earned an unenviable notoriety for throwing decency overboard, a case in point being the uncharitable words he hurled at a colleague politician which landed on the doorsteps of countryside dwellers, the uncouth villagers under cocoa trees.

This is a reference to his infamous description of Sir John, the NPP General Secretary, as a typical ‘cocoase kurasini’, to wit a villager from a cocoa producing area.

That such a remark emanated from a man previously charged with showcasing the tourist potentials of the country, countryside life et al, suggests his inappropriateness for that assignment.

If the foregone was not enough to attract the whip of the President, given his ostensible condemnation of insults in our body-politick, then we do not know what else is.

Perhaps the President was waiting for another opportunity to crack the whip, a chance which came last week when the man once more threw decency to the dogs and attacked the leader of the largest opposition party, the man who recently made headlines when he and the President exchanged pleasantries at a state event. He described Nana Akufo Addo as a fruitcake, a madman who dresses shabbily.

If President John Evans Atta Mills has been unable to locate an instance of invective-laced political indecency from within his party or even government so he can prove his sincere aversion to the anathema, Kobby Acheampong has provided one, cut and dry.

What an opportunity for the President to make good his intention to rid the country of unnecessary political insults and badly bred individuals holding public office without basic etiquette.
