After another intriguing round of Premier League fixtures, 10-man Manchester United extended their lead over second-placed Arsenal to five points courtesy of their 1-0 victory over Bolton on Saturday.

The Gunners lost ground after failing to defeat West Brom at the Hawthorns, although they did manage to salvage a 2-2 draw having been 2-0 down following goals from Steven Reid and Peter Odemwingie after another comical defensive mix-up.

In the marquee fixture of the weekend, Chelsea kept their slim title hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge while Liverpool moved to within four points of fifth-placed Tottenham following their 2-0 win at Sunderland.

Matt Jarvis, rewarded for his impressive performances with an England call-up on Sunday, grabbed the only goal as Wolves beat Aston Villa to aid their chances of avoiding the drop while Stoke City thumped Newcastle 4-0.

Everton came out on top against Fulham at Goodison Park on Saturday evening while the early fixture of the day saw Harry Redknapp’s Champions League-chasing Spurs held by West Ham.

As the relegation scrap continues to hot up, Blackburn Rovers fought back from two goals down to draw with Blackpool and Wigan Athletic picked up what could prove a priceless 2-1 win over Birmingham City.
