Liverpool and England defender Glen Johnson believes that there will be no problems within the squad concerning the decision made by manager Fabio Capello to reinstate John Terry as captain.

The Chelsea defender has been given the armband at the expense of Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand after being removed from the position 13 months ago following revelations about his private life.

Nevertheless, full-back Johnson fully expects the England team to get behind the returning skipper for the Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales on Saturday.

“I’m happy to play for England, regardless of who’s the captain,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Obviously Fabio’s made a decision and that’s Fabio’s decision so it’s above my head, really.”

Asked whether the decision could prove to be divisive, he added: “No, no, I don’t think so.

“Obviously in the squad, everyone is professional and they go about the job in the right way so I’m sure they’ll be fine.

“Obviously John Terry has been a fantastic captain with Chelsea and with England and I’m sure he’ll carry on doing the same job.”

Capello’s decision has effectively kicked Ferdinand, the injury-plagued Manchester United defender, to the curb and Johnson believes that while the former Leeds and West Ham man may be disheartened, he’ll dust himself down, and get on with it.

“Obviously Rio will be upset to lose the armband,” continued Johnson.

“But it’s football and he’s a big man so I’m sure he’ll pick himself up and get on with it.”
