The son of Ghana’s first President Dr. Sekou Nkrumah has been condemned for his proposed merger talks between the Convention People’s Party and the ruling National Democratic Congress.

A publication by the “Heritage” news paper on Monday 21st March, 2011 the report to Dr. Sekou Nkrumah who said the merger is the only means to make the CPP become effective.

According to Dr. Nkrumah, there is no way the CPP can win power in Ghana unless it merges with the ruling National Democratic Congress.

Sekou who is son of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah said the CPP is now wallowing in political darkness and the only way for the party to come to lime light, is to join forces with the NDC.

But a leading member of the Party, Bright Akwetey has kicked against Dr. Nkrumah.
He accused sekou of lacking the dynamics of Ghanaian politics, hence the proposed merger talks.
Lawyer Bright Akwetey stated that CPP and NDC are totally two deferent parties with deferent ideologies which makes it is impossible for the two parties to merge.

He stated that CPP as a party is inspired by the ideologies of Osagyefo Dr. kwame Nkrumah.
Mr. Akwetey said the NDC’s ideology as a social democratic party is not clearly defined as compared to the Nkrumahist ideology which is clearly defined.

He expressed optimism that CPP can win elections in Ghana since Ghanaians are fed up with the leading political parties.

He stressed that Ghanaians are now yearning for a strong third force to redeem them from the poor governance by both the NPP and NDC.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah has reiterated his statement that until CPP merges with NDC, it will continue to remain in the political doldrums.

He described Lawyer Akwetey’s reaction as unfortunate as he has chosen to focus his arguments on personalities and ideologies instead of looking at the broader view of his proposal.

“Mr. Akwetey has been narrow in his approach, he should consider the positive impact the merger will have on the CPP as a party. “If the party does not change from its old ways of sticking to ideologies of my without embracing new tends, it party will continue to score one percent in subsequent elections as has been the case always”, Sekou stated.
