Petr Cech believes that Chelsea can take advantage of Manchester United’s hectic schedule and retain the Premier League title.
A 2-0 win over a stubborn Manchester City on Sunday provided further evidence that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are moving on from their previous struggles in form.
Defending Premier League champions Chelsea moved up to third as a result of the victory and are now nine points behind leaders United with a game in hand.
With Sir Alex Ferguson’s men still to play Cech and his team-mates three times this season, twice in a two-legged UEFA Champions League quarter-final, and an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, Cech thinks there could be advantages for Chelsea.
Realistic
Asked if it was realistic to say that Chelsea were still in the Premier League title race, the goalkeeper told iDnes.cz: “Yes, it is.
“Manchester must spread energy into three competitions because apart from the Premier League they are still in the FA Cup and in the Champions League quarter-final against us.”
United are without a number of players due to injury, including Rio Ferdinand, Rafael and John O’Shea.
Jonny Evans is also unavailable due to suspension following a red card for his tackle on Bolton’s Stuart Holden at the weekend.
Cech said: “They have got a lot of injured players and some are suspended. Anyway, we must keep winning and hope they drop points along the way.”
