A transport plane has crashed in a residential area of Congo-Brazzaville’s economic capital, Pointe-Noire.

One witness said ambulances were taking the dead to the mortuary and the wounded to hospital.

Civil aviation head Michel Ambende said the plane had crashed on landing but would not confirm that anyone had been killed.

“There is a lot of damage but we are not talking about dead yet,” he said, according to the AFP news agency.

The plane is said to be an Antonov, operated by Trans Air Congo and crashed in the city’s Mvou Mvou district.
