The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) leader, Dim Emeka Ojukwu, has assured APGA supporters that the party would win in Abia State next month.
APGA’s National Chairman Chief Victor Umeh at the weekend delivered Ojukwu’s message at a rally to flag off the campaign of its governorship candidate in Aba.
Umeh said Ojukwu was recuperating in a hospital in London.
He quoted Ojukwu as saying: “I am with you people in spirit and I will soon come back to be with you, and I hope you remember how close I am with the people of Aba.
” I want you to shine your eyes during the elections so that you do not vote for the wrong people again.”
The APGA leader urged them to vote for the the party, if they want to see changes in the state.
Umeh regretted that Aba has not changed much since he visited the town as a student in 1980.
He said those who had ruled the state had no vision, and promised that APGA would change that from May 29.
The party chairman explained why the party decided to support President Goodluck Jonathan.
He said: “We looked at all the presidential candidates and saw that it is only President Jonathan that has all it takes to help the Igbo.
“President Jonathan is one of us; the mother of his wife is from Umuahia. He is an in-law to Ndigbo.
‘’He made Enugu Airport an international one and so many other things he has done for us.
‘’We believe he will do more when he returns as the president. That is why our party decided to support him.”
The governorship candidate, Reagan Ufomba, denied that he stepped down.
He said he only took time off to bury his mother.
Ufomba said he would develop Aba, Umuahia and the three senatorial zones.
The candidate challenged the government to tell the people what it did for them.
Highpoint of the ceremony was when Ufomba arrived at the venue of the campaign by tricycle.
