Johnson Beharry VC missed out on a place in the Dancing On Ice final tonight, after facing Chloe Madeley in the skate-off.

The Victoria Cross hero was voted off the programme in the semi-final after the three judges unanimously decided to save Chloe.

But ever-cheery Johnson managed to take the news well, telling viewers: ‘There’s no need to be sad, I had loads of fun – the time of my life.’

Emotional exit: Johnson Beharry VC and partner Jodeyne Higgins were voted off Dancing On Ice on the semi-final

After revealing the public vote, hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby announced that Sam Attwater and Brianne Delcourt had made it through to next week’s final, before announcing they would be joined by Laura Hamilton and Colin Ratushniak.

That left Chloe Madeley and Michael Zenezini and Johnson Beharry VC and partner Jodeyne Higgins to perform in the skate-off.

Chloe and Michael were first up, and while the routine was perhaps slightly more hesitant, the pair got through without repeating the tumble they had earlier managed during the routine.

A clearly emotional Jodeyne said after the performance: ‘Every moment I have been out of the ice with this man has been truly inspirational.’

But it was a unanimous decision from the judges, who all voted for Chloe to get through to the final next week.

Earlier in the show, the skaters were shown being told by judge Robin Cousins that they would have to complete a solo routine after finishing their first dance.

The celebrities were also told both of the routines would be given marks by the judges, giving them the chance to earn a maximum of 60 points.

Chloe and Michael were first up on the semi-final week, with Chloe admitting she was stunned to have made it so far in the competition.

As well as attempting a knee slide,
Chloe and Michael tried their most dangerous lift to date, the ‘Roman
Candle’ lift which sees Chloe place her skates on Michael’s chest and
    lean forward.

    And after the
dress rehearsal for the show, Chloe was left in tears after finding the
lift to difficult to complete, insisting: ‘This is the most ridiculous
thing we have done to date’.

Firecracker: Their routine to Katy Perry’s Firework included some ‘ridiculously dangerous’ lifts

    But
Chloe, who looked stunning in a cut-out white outfit, gave it her best
shot as she and Michael started their routine to Katy Perry’s Firework.

With parents Judy Finnigan and Richard Madeley in the audience, the pressure was on for Chloe to get all the moves right.

    And
as well as successfully managing her knee slide, Chloe and Michael
performed their lift well, with only a slight tremble from Chloe hinting
    at her fear.

    However,
things started to go wrong towards the end of the routine when Chloe
slipped and caused partner Michael to fall over as well.

Whoops: But after successfully completing their lifts, the pair stumbled on a simple crossover, costing them precious points

The tumble meant the couple only received a total of 21 points, significantly less than last week’s 27.

    Talking
to hosts Phillip and Holly, as well as trainers
Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean, after the routine, Michael said:
    ‘It
was my fault because I stepped too wide and my foot got stuck. The fear
tonight was to do this big lift and she did it so I’m really proud of
    her.’

And Chloe added to Michael: ‘I’m gutted for you, I’m sorry. We made it all the way to the semi-final and we fell on the crossover.’

    When
the judges revealed the reasons for their marks, Robin Cousins said:
‘It was really really good. And after the fall, you both got your
composure back for that final spin.’

It's ok: Chloe's partner Michael took the blame for the fall, despite Chloe insisting it was her fault

But Jason, as always, wasn’t as
complimentary, saying: ‘Sometimes the nerves take over and things go
wrong, but that said I was looking at your finishings and tonight I felt
some of your leg and arm lines weren’t as strong as they should be for a
    semi-final performance.

‘Some of your arms tonight looked as though they’d been starched and ironed straight.‘

Johnson and partner Jodeyne were up next, performing to Noah and the Whale’s Life Goes On.

Before taking to the ice, Johnson said he was nervous about the routine, explaining: ‘I know my skating isn’t the strongest so I have to get on top of my routine and do it 100% so they qualify me for the final.‘

And the routine went without a hitch,
with Jodeyne performing some technically challenging lifts, and Johnson
impressing with his finesse on the rink.

Afterwards, Johnson looked delighted with the performance, grinning widely and hugging Jodeyne.

But the judges obviously weren’t as impressed,a warding the couple 18.5 points out of 30.

Talking to Schofield after coming off the ice, Jodeyne said: ‘There were some difficult lifts in there and I’m so proud of him.’

Referring to the routine afterwards, Emma said: ‘This is quite basic after seeing what Chloe did but keeping it plain and simple is the best way to go.’

Again, Jason didn’t pull any punches
with his comments, exclaiming: ‘If anyone was sleep-deprived before that
routine, I think they’d be cured of that now. It didn’t really go
anywhere and there’s no pizazz in any of your presentation.’

    Robin
agreed, adding: ‘It was nice that you were so confident out there but
you were very much focused on the tricks in that routine. And that was
at the expense of you being you and having some fun with it.’

Third to take to the ice was Laura and partner Colin, who danced to Clare Maguire’s The Last Dance.

And there was a lot of pressure on
the pair, who performed the difficult Headbanger trick, which sees the
man swing his partner around by her ankle.

    Before
the routine, Laura said: ‘A lot is required of us this week. Pretty
much every trick is something we haven’t done before. And as well as all
of that we’re going to do the headbanger!’

But, dressed in a pretty turquoise dress, Laura looked very confident as she and Colin prepared for the routine on the ice.

    And her confidence was well-deserved,
as Laura successfully pulled off the headbanger, earning the pair a
score of 28.0 – just 0.5 points off their previously highest score.

Asked how close she had been to hitting her head, Chloe said: ‘I felt the ice with my arm. But I trust Colin, 100%.

    And
Colin added: ‘The adrenaline came out a little bit more and I thought,
“Let’s just throw this thing!” But safely, of course.’

    Before
Holly handed over to the judges for their comments, she exclaimed that
the headbanger had nearly made her ‘go into labour!’

    Jason then said: ‘That
was a semi-finalist performance. What is so wonderful about you is that
you’re very very courageous. It was very solid and it was one of my
favourite performances from you from the whole series.’

Robin agreed, saying: ‘I think it was fantastic, and the transitions from one trick to the other were seamless.’

    Emma
concluded: ‘You gave me goosebumps tonight, you bring something very
special to this competition. Tonight, I just couldn’t get enough of
    you.’

    After a stunning performance from
Torvill and Dean, Sam and Brianne were the
last couple to perform their joint routine – and they were the second
    pair to attempt the headbanger.

    Before
the routine, Brianne said: ‘I think he has lot a bit of his love for
skating. He has put so much pressure on himself and it’s taken some of
the enjoyment out of it for him.’

    But
EastEnders star Sam looked determined to enjoy himself as he and
Brianne danced to Jamie Cullum’s Please Don’t Stop The Music.

After some challenging lifts, it was time for the Headbanger, which Sam and Brianne pulled off without difficulty.

Good job: While Chloe was clearly nervous about the performance, she was praised by the judges for her confidence in being the first solo skater out

    Receiving
their scores from the judges, Sam and Brianne were awarded 28 points
for the routine and praised for their ‘controlled synchronicity’.

    After
receiving an apology from Sam following a comment he made last week
regarding a drop of his hat during prop week, Jason said: ‘You showed me
the love, it was beautiful across the ice. And what I also loved was
the staggering amount of control you had in that stag lift.’

Emma added: ‘Sam, you are back, which is so exciting. Do not let it slip through your fingers again.’

And Robin concluded: ‘I concur with everything my fellow judges have said. It was great.’

Next up was the start of the solo performances, with Chloe the first to take to the ice.

    After
the contestants were given a solo skating tutorial by judge and former
Olympic medallist Robin Cousins, Chloe said she was worried her nerves
were going to get the better of her.

    And
partner Michael also found it difficult, adding: ‘I cannot help her and
that’s difficult because it’s out of my hands. But I think she can pull
it off – I have faith in her.’

    Wearing
a red and white Candy Striper-style outfit, Chloe skated confidently
onto the ice and started the routine to The Ting Tings’ That’s Not My
    Name.

    Despite receiving a
disappointing score of just 20, Chloe said she was happy with the
routine, especially because she didn’t fall over at all during the
    performance.

After the routine, judge Robin praised Chloe for her confidence upon being first to go solo, adding: ‘I thought you did a very good job.‘

    Emma
said: ‘You’re so good but you seem to lose confidence when you’re on
your own. But you came out here and you gave it that attitude I love.’

    But
Jason said: ‘It looked a little bit awkward and tentative in a couple
of places. But I applaud you for coming out and giving it your best
    shot.’

Johnson was up next, dancing to Bob Marley’s Don’t Worry, Be Happy, in a bright yellow shirts.

Afterwards, Jason said:’It was very awkward and very unsteady – it wasn’t on a par with the other finalists.’

    However,
Emma disagreed, saying: ‘You couldn’t even skate at the beginning of
this show and you’re doing a solo performance, and that’s great.

‘My baby kicked the whole way through that performance so something was right.’

Robin said: ‘I would have like to have seen a bit more of the playful Johnson out there.’

Next up doing her solo performance to These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ was Laura, who admitted before taking to the ice: ‘I do feel worried and stressed about everything – I’m really scared about this week.’

And Laura received a stunning score of 26.5 for her solo performance, leaving the presenter ‘in shock’.

Afterwards she said: ‘That was so much fun. I did miss Colin but I took on what Robin said and just thought about me!’

    Judge

    An
usually complimentary Jason said: ‘I’m blown away. That is a solo skate
I didn’t think we would get to see from anyone in this competition. You
amaze me, you are a finalist and you deserve to go to the finals.’

    Robin
added: ‘You commanded our attention at the beginning and you didn’t let
up throughout the whole thing. As an overall performance that was
    fantastic.’

Sam was the last contestant to complete his solo performance, dancing to Stevie Wonder’s Superstition.

But the actor was terrified before
taking to the ice because he had to perform the ‘tricky’ Hydroglide
move, which sees the skated have to balance on their hand as well as
    their skates.

However, he needn’t have worried as

And Sam was awarded a score of 27.5 for his impressive performance, the highest

Robin said: ‘You had great speed across the ice, great control on the jumps – I thought you did a great job.’

Emma added: ‘I’m so glad you got to see you do a solo performance. You went for it and I loved seeing that cheeky side of Sam.’

    And
Jason said: ‘It was a great routine – you’re so confident on your own
and you’ve always struggled in your synchronicity with another person so
it was great to get you on your own.’
