The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has accused Taraba State Governor Danbaba Suntai and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of “unconstitutionally using the Army and the Police to intimidate and arrest political opponents.”

The party alleged that soldiers have arrested and detained 30 of its supporters.

Director-General of the Senator Danlami Ikenya Campaign Organisation Danladi Baido spoke at a news conference in Jalingo yesterday.

He said those arrested were detained at the Mararraba-Baissa Police Station.

Baido said: “Deployment of soldiers and police to these areas would have been correct if there was instability or perceived political tensions.

‘’ But by attacking only opposition camps means there is a hidden agenda.

“The soldiers are on a systematic and premeditated mission of harassing ACN supporters without any provocation while giving protection to political thugs of the governor.

“We wish to state here that the action of the military and police is a direct affront and a negation on the assurance made by President Goodluck Jonathan that the April 2011 polls will be free and fair.”

Commissioner of Police, Felix Uyanna told The Nation that the police had been arresting those who mutilate campaign posters and billboards.

“However, to maintain peace, we shall crackdown on anyone found to be breaking law and order. ‘’
