Pardeza praised the English side for their resilience in getting so far in the competition at the first attempt, and made note of the fact that Los Blancos could have drawn more powerful opposition.
“The draw could have been a lot worse, but Tottenham will not be an easy opponent,” Pardeza is quoted as saying by AS. “They have made some big investments and are doing well in the Premier League.
“While they may not be as well know as some of the other teams in the competition, they will still be a very difficult side to beat.”
If Madrid do manage to progress past a Spurs side inspired by former Blancos midfielder Rafael van der Vaart, they have the distinct possibility of facing Barcelona in the semi-finals – meaning there would be four Clasicos in a very short space of time.
“If Barcelona and Madrid both go through, there will be four derbies in a few weeks. It’s unprecedented and I don’t think that will ever be repeated. If one Clasico causes a social media overflow, imagine what four would do!” he joked.
The two sides are already due to meet in the Copa del Rey final and the second league clash of the season.
