Manchester United‘s Champions League quarter-final ties with domestic rivals Chelsea will be difficult, striker Javier Hernandez has admitted.

The two English clubs come together on April 6 at Stamford Bridge, with the return tie at Old Trafford a week later.

Unfortunately for the Red Devils, their history at the West London ground does not favour them at all as they have not won on Chelsea’s turf since 2002 and have only recently been on the end of a defeat to Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

Hernandez is aware of the threat the reigning Premier League champions possess and is expecting quite the challenge from the Blues, but believes the second leg being staged at Old Trafford should give his side confidence.

The Mexican, who netted a brace in United’s victory over Marseille on Tuesday, is quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying: “We play in the same league and it is going to be tough.

“Stamford Bridge is a nice stadium and it makes it a little bit like a league game. But if there is an advantage, we are at home in the second game.”

The 22-year-old striker is having a fantastic debut season for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, with three goals so far in the Champions League, and believes the competition suits his game.

“It probably does,” Hernandez said. “I am trying to think game by game and not to look too far in the future.

“But I am very happy with the way things are going in the Champions League and I want to keep it like that.”
