The Serbia international sustained a calf injury during the recent FA Cup game against Arsenal, which ended 2-0 in favour of the Red Devils.
And having not trained since, the 29 year-old is now a doubt for Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Marseille.
“Vidic got a knock on Saturday and was getting treatment,” said Ferguson. “Hopefully he will be OK. He’s tough enough, but couldn’t train.”
Rio Ferdinand is already sidelined with a calf injury that will prevent him from taking part in the second leg of the double-header between the two sides, which takes place at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.
United are hopeful of having Vidic back in action for Saturday’s Premier League game against Bolton.
With Jonny Evans also out injured, United may once again have to rely on the makeshift central defensive partnership of Chris Smalling and Wes Brown for the visit of Marseille.
