AWAKA – ANAMBRA and Kogi States are to meet soon to resolve the lingering border dispute between their border communities, Anambra State Deputy Governor, Mr. Emeka Sibeudu, has said.
Sibeudu, who is the chairman of the state boundary committee, said during a meeting with the elders of the border communities that the state government was committed to a peaceful resolution of the dispute.
It was gathered that the deputy governor had to visit the area following a report by the member representing the area in the state House of Assembly, Chief Mike Offor, that the dispute might get out of hand if the two governments failed to intervene immediately.
The affected Anambra communities, namely Mmiata-Anam, Umudora- Anam and Umuikwu-Anam, all in Anambra West local government area, had been having border skirmishes with their neighbouring Ikar community in Kogi State, which had earlier attracted the attention of officials of the National Boundary Commission.
