Villa V Bunnamwaya — SC Villa coach Srdjan Zivojnov took time off to watch last Friday’s Ecobank Super League game between reigning champions Bunnamwaya and newcomers Maroons at Nakivubo Stadium.
Edward Golola’s side did clinch the three points with Tony Odur netting the game’s only goal. It was welcome maximum points especially that Bunnamwaya had just been docked three points and fined Shs1m for fielding an unregistered player, Nickolas Wadada, last year.
But the display left a lot to be desired and Bunnamwaya needed goalkeeper Godwin Buule to be at his best to deny Maroons on three clear occasions.
For the umpteenth time, Hamza Muwonge, named in the 24-man national team provisional squad, warmed the bench.
Even Golola acknowledged it was a lethargic display after the game. “We were poor. Maroons were unlucky that we just got our chance and utilised it.”
Zivo, however, refuses to read from that performance he witnessed on Friday. “Bunnamwaya didn’t give 100 per cent against Maroons,” said Zivo, “May be they were preparing for Villa.
“It’s different when a big team is playing Maroons, Gulu, Utoda, etc… When that team plays KCC, Express, Villa…it’s very different. “It’s my first game against Bunnamwaya but I’ve been watching them. They play well, they are the defending champions, and they have many players in the national team.” The Serb has no injury concerns.
