Dynamo Kiev striker Andriy Shevchenko has warned his team-mates that their Europa League tie with Manchester City is far from won, even after a solid 2-0 victory in the first leg.

The former Chelsea and AC Milan player opened the scoring in the last-16 game of the competition and showed he can still be a threat in front of goal despite his advancing years.

Kiev midfielder Oleh Gusev was able to add a second as the game reached it’s conclusion, but Shevchenko believes his team need to be fully awake for the return tie at Eastlands next Thursday and must not succumb to complacency.

“This was only the first half,” the 34-year-old said.

“It will be a completely different game in Manchester. We are very glad to have won. I think our fans really enjoyed this game.

“What was the most difficult thing? Sticking to our tactical plan. We played very well from a tactical point of view, and I must give full credit to our defenders.”
