Jack Wilshere believes the experience of playing against Barcelona will help to make him a better player.

The 19-year-old found himself on the losing side against the Catalan giants on Tuesday, as Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League dream died on Spanish soil.

A 3-1 reversal at Camp Nou, following a 2-1 win in the first leg of the last-16 tie, saw the Gunners crash out to the Primera Liga leaders for the second successive season.

There were, however, a number of positives for Arsene Wenger to take from the two-legged tie, not least the performance of teenage midfielder Wilshere.

The youngster, who has already been drafted into the senior England side this season, believes competing in such games can only help to bring the best out of you and is refusing to get too downbeat at seeing his European adventure come to an end.

Wilshere said: “To be playing against people like Xavi and Andres Iniesta is brilliant.

“It was a great experience. At my age, I am still learning and there are no better players to learn from.

“Barcelona will probably win it now because they are the best team in Europe.”

    Spirit

Wilshere is also confident that Arsenal can put their continental disappointment behind them and focus their full attention on the pursuit of Premier League and FA Cup glory.

“We have got to pick ourselves up,” he said.

“We have still got the championship, we are just three points behind and with a game in hand. We will go to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Saturday to get the win.”

Wilshere added: “We never give up, that is the spirit of Arsenal.

“We are still in two competitions and need to get a trophy this year, that will be the aim.”
