There was drama in the studios of Peacefm during Tuesday’s edition of “Kokrokoo”, the station’s flagship programme, when a heated shouting match erupted between Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., and a member of the Communication Team for the opposition NPP, Samuel Awuku.

The verbal altercation began when Samuel Awuku took his turn to speak to the issue of International Women’s Day, and in the course of his submission, cited examples some of which related to appointees of the ruling NDC who he claimed have in one or the other, demeaned by abusing women, sparking a brutal response from Kwesi Pratt.

The AFAG Lieutenant touched on several reports of women whose rights have been violated by their bosses, including the case of Capt. Nfodwo who was alleged to have raped his girlfriend at gun point. He also cited the incident of a NADMO boss, alleged to have demanded sexual favours from a lady secretary and a teacher who was forced to eat faeces by the husband.

But the Insight Managing Editor did not take kindly to these references, claiming the NPP activist was deliberately politicising the issue and not being fair by his choice of examples, pointing out that there are equally leading members of the NPP, guilty of the offences he (Awuku) mentioned.

Samuel Awuku however, insisted that his analysis was not to suggest that all those who have abused women are NDC supporters but just an example out of the reported lot. According to him, he cited all those examples because he thought the people alleged to be the perpetrators ought to have known better. He then accused Mr. Pratt of getting uncomfortable anytime issues negatively affecting the NDC or some of their activists are raised.

An angry, Kwesi Pratt, who took exception to Awuku’s accusations, then stated that he only protested because the NPP Deputy Communications Director was not being fair in his delivering, adding that Awuku could have also cited PC Appiah Ofori as an example but he deliberately focused on only NDC activists or government appointees.

Not to be undone, Mr. Awuku retorted that it was neither Kwesi’s right to determine what kind of references he (Awuku) should make on the programme, nor examples to cite. He told the seasoned journalist off and stated; “why do you want me to say things that might favour you?…then I don’t need to turn up for the programme…whoever or whatever I cite as example is my singular honour, when you are given the opportunity by the Host, you can also give your own set of examples…you may disagree with my point but you need to respect my opinion,” Awuku replied angrily.

Just as the war of words went an octave higher, host of the show, Kwami Sefa Kayi, stepped in and calmly diffused matters.
