With rumours suggesting that Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric could be on his way to Inter in the summer, club captain Javier Zanetti has revealed he would relish playing with such a talented player.

The Croatian starred for Spurs in their two group games against Inter in this season’s Champions League.

And with Inter on the lookout for a new midfielder as signs suggest that long-serving Dejan Stankovic will be coming to the end of his career soon, the 25-year-old could fit the bill.

Modric still has a considerable amount of time on his contract remaining and with Manchester United also believed to be interested, the schemer won’t be a cheap purchase.

Zanetti believes that the creative midfielder has what it takes to become a star in Serie A after facing him twice in Europe this season.

“We faced Modric twice in this season’s Champions League and I think he’s a great player,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Technically, he brings an interesting dimension. He’s also still young.

“And I say this even though I prefer to talk about the players who are already here because we are still in the running for all competitions.”

Zanetti and Modric may even face each other a third time if both sides progress to the quarter finals. Tottenham take a slender lead back to White Hart Lane against opponents AC Milan whereas Inter will have to overcome a 1-0 deficit in Germany as they play Bayern Munich.
