He said instead of the NDC government boldly confronting the problems, they are rather playing the blame game and accusing the Controller and Accountant General of sabotaging the Single Spine Salary Structure. To him, the NDC always feels sabotaged anytime they fail in the implementation of a policy.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show, Kabila asserted that NAGRAT is not on strike solely because of salary troubles but also as a result of government’s lip-service attitude to them.
According to him, the NDC government promised in their manifesto to make teacher salaries competitive, thus raising high the expectations of teachers that their salaries might be comparable to other government workers.
“The attitude of government so far on the teacher’s problems shows that they are irresponsible. Some of the NDC were all over the place accusing the Controller and Accountant General of sabotage, saying that he should be shown the exit because he has different political thinking. Whenever the NDC fails, they say somebody is sabotaging them,” he lamented.
A clearly livid Kwabena Bomfeh said instead of government officials calming tempers and offering reasonable assurances to teachers, they are rather casting insinuations and calling them (teachers) names.
“I heard the Minister of Education over the weekend saying that it is some rabble-rousers among the teachers who are embarking on those strike actions. If you describe teachers who are furious because they feel cheated as rabble-rousers, what are you telling them?” he asked angrily.
Mr Kwabena Bomfeh added that it is time government respects teachers and offer solutions to the difficulties facing them and also do away with the blame game and sabotage theory.
