Barcelona striker David Villa has extended his gratitude toward the Valencia fans on his return to the Mestalla on Wednesday evening.
The Spain international forward joined Barcelona from Valencia in the summer after spending five successful years with los Che in which he established himself as one of the most prolific and finest strikers in Europe.
Villa started the match against his old club in the Spanish Primera Division that Barca won 1-0 to open a ten-point gap at the top of the table in the Spanish Primera Division.
“It’s an important victory because the Mestalla is a difficult and complicated place [to play],” said Villa after the match, according to Elmundo.es.
“I’m very happy because the people here gave me great affection. I have only words of gratitude for them.”
Commenting on the Liga title race, the 29-year-old stated, “A lot remains to be played in the league and we have to win no matter how others fare.
“The further we are, the better. We have the privilege of relying on ourselves.”
