Ghana striker Prince Tagoe got off to a flying start in the Serbian league when he scored two goals for Partizan Belgrade to dismantle Indjija 3-1 on Saturday.

Prince Tagoe scored twice for Partizan Belgrade on Saturday, one through a header.

Ghana striker Prince Tagoe got off to a flying start in the Serbian league when he scored two goals for Partizan Belgrade to dismantle Indjija 3-1 on Saturday.

The 24-year-old struck twice with goals in either half in his first game in the European country’s top-flight league.

His compatriot Dominic Adiyiah, who was a second half substitute, was in excellent form for the title holders despite the unfavourable wintery conditions on the pitch.

Tagoe joined Partizan on loan at the start of last month from German side Hofffenheim because of lack of playing opportunities.

Despite playing for the Serbian giants in six friendly matches, Saturday’s game was his official match since his move from the Bundesliga.

With Tagoe regaining his confidence since joining Partizan, he hit the ground running when he put the visiting side in the lead on 12 minutes with a strike from inside the box.

The home side rallied and drew level on the half hour mark through Davidov before the visitors regained their lead thanks to an Iliev strike.

Tagoe wrapped up the memorable victory in the 63rd minute with a powerful header after a sweet cross came in from the right as the visiting fans chanted the name of their newly-found Ghanaian hero.

Adiyiah , who is on loan from AC Milan, came on moments after the goal for his official debut for Partizan and the present danger was clear for the home fans.

Adiyiah harassed the Indjija defenders who had then become aware of the danger posed by the two Ghanaian strikers.

He set Tagoe up for a good scoring opportunity but the tall striker was ruled offside.

Partizan have an eight-point gap lead at the top of the table with 43 points from 16 games even though their closest rivals Red Star have a game in hand.

The performance of the two Ghanaian players bodes well for the Black Stars ahead of this month’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo on 26 March and the friendly clash with England three days later.
