Arsene Wenger believes the Premier League title is Manchester United‘s “to lose” despite Arsenal having a game in hand on the Red Devils.
The Gunners face Sunderland at the Emirates today and a win will see them close the gap at the top of the table to just a single point as United face Liverpool at Anfield tomorrow.
Wenger told reporters: “No, it’s not ours to lose, it’s United’s to lose. If you look at the bookmakers, they favour United.”
Despite the Gunners’ favourable run-in Wenger is not being complacent about his side’s ability to win their first title since 2004 as the Frenchman believes it will hard work.
“Mathematically it’s in our hands but that doesn’t mean that it’s ours to lose because if you look at the fixtures, we have difficult games,” he added.
“And I would say exactly the reverse: it’s ours to win more than ours to lose, because they are in a leading position.
“So it’s down to us, to our good behaviour, to win it.”
The Gunners boss doesn’t think Sir Alex Ferguson’s side will crack under the stress of the title battle but believes they are fallible as their defeat to Chelsea in midweek proved.
He said: “I don’t count too much on United feeling the pressure. I count more on my team than on any weakness of them.
“It was all United in the first half and all Chelsea in the second.
“When Chelsea stepped it up, you could see it coming, especially after Wayne Rooney missed the chance to make it 2-1.
“You cannot say United’s form has been poor – they have been dominant at home – and we should not expect any weakness from them.”
