Omar, Ex-Vanguard Editor, others emerge new NLC leaders

    ONE Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ninety-Two delegates representing workers from all the states of the federation as well as all sectors of the Nigerian economy, in the early hours of yesterday, re-elected incumbent President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar and former Assistant Labour Editor of Vanguard Comrade Joseph Ajaero, among others into the16 members National Administrative Council of the congress for the next four years.

    Comrade Ajaero who is the current General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, was elected Deputy President of NLC alongside Comrade Promise Adewusi, and Comrade Shuaib Kiri Mohammed

    While Comrade Adewusi is the incumbent  President of the Senior Staff of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Comrade Mohammed is the President of Nigeria Civil Service Union, NCSU.

    The NAC reiterated congress position that there must be payment of the N18, 000 minimum wage before the before April polls could hold.

    Announcing the results of the election, former President of NLC, Comrade Ali Chiroma said the incumbent President, Comrade Omar was returned unopposed.

    Comrade Chiroma, while announcing the result said Comrade Adewusi scored the highest vote in the Deputy President election with a total of 1, 349 votes, Comrade Ajaero scored 1, 337, while Comrade Kiri, the national president of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) scored 1, 260 to emerged as deputy presidents.
