The Member of Parliament for Mpohor Wassa East, Mr. Anthony Evans Amoah, has said community radios should be regulated to check the content of information they disseminate.

This, he said, would bring sanity and circumspection in the conduct of the operators in order not to inflame passions.

Mr. Amoah made the call at the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Mpohor Wassa East District Assembly at Daboase in the Western Region.

The former Western Regional Minister said the current proliferation of community radio stations in the district called for regulation since any slip with regards to information could create chaos and insecurity.

He condemned a phenomenon where people used community radios as a platform to settle personal scores adding that some operators were in the business to make money hence anything is allowed to be put on air without bothering about its consequences.

Mr Amoah acknowledged the invaluable contribution of community radio in the development of any organized community but was quick to add that they could equally pose a great danger to development if nothing is done about the information churned out to the people.
